About Buildathon

Buildathon vs hackathon

With the mission of Baddies in Tech in mind, we deliberately opted for the term "buildathon" instead of "hackathon" to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for our community members. We recognize that the term "hackathon" can sometimes carry intimidating connotations, especially for those who are new to the tech space. By using "buildathon," we aim to demystify the hackathon culture and emphasize the value of creation over competition. Our goal is to empower more women to participate in these events, providing them with a supportive platform to develop their skills, expand their portfolios, and make meaningful contributions to projects that have a tangible impact.

why women's rights?

At Baddies in Tech, we firmly believe in leveraging technology as a powerful tool for social change and empowerment. That's why we've chosen Women's Rights as the theme for our Buildathon. Gender inequality remains a pervasive issue globally, and by focusing our efforts on this critical area, we aim to address disparities, challenge stereotypes, and create opportunities for women in the tech industry. Through innovative solutions and collaborative efforts, we strive to harness the potential of technology to advance gender equality, amplify women's voices, and build a more inclusive and equitable society. Join us in our mission to empower women through technology and drive meaningful change in the fight for gender equality.

Technology Tracks

In our Buildathon, we offer three distinct tracks – 5G, AI, and Blockchain – each presenting unique opportunities to contribute to women's rights through technology.

Artificial intelligence

Participants focus on harnessing artificial intelligence and machine learning to tackle gender inequalities, improve decision-making processes, and foster inclusivity. This involves developing AI-powered tools to analyze and mitigate gender bias in recruitment processes, ultimately promoting fairer hiring practices and workplace diversity. Additionally, chatbots or virtual assistants can be created to provide tailored information, support, and resources to address the specific challenges faced by women. Project ideas may include building a sentiment analysis tool to identify and counter online harassment and hate speech targeting women on social media platforms, as well as designing an AI-driven educational platform offering personalized learning experiences to empower women pursuing careers in STEM fields.

blockchain

Leveraging blockchain technology to advance transparency, accountability, and security in initiatives related to women's rights and gender equality. This could entail implementing blockchain-based solutions to track and verify the distribution of funds and resources for women's empowerment programs, ensuring they reach intended beneficiaries without the interference of intermediaries or corruption. Additionally, establishing decentralized identity platforms can protect the rights and privacy of women, especially in regions where access to official documentation is limited. Potential project ideas include developing a blockchain-based platform for secure and tamper-proof documentation of land ownership rights, empowering women to assert their property rights and access financial services. Moreover, creating a decentralized marketplace could enable women artisans and entrepreneurs to directly sell their products to consumers, bypassing traditional intermediaries and overcoming barriers to entry.

5g network

Our Buildathon focuses on utilizing the power of 5G technology to address women's rights challenges, enhance information accessibility, and empower marginalized communities. For instance, it enables the establishment of faster and more reliable communication networks in remote areas, thereby facilitating access to essential resources and support for women. Additionally, innovative telemedicine solutions supported by 5G technology become especially relevant for women in underserved regions who encounter obstacles in accessing healthcare services. Potential project ideas include designing a mobile application that leverages 5G technology to offer real-time emergency assistance and support for women facing domestic violence or harassment, as well as creating a virtual mentoring platform utilizing high-speed 5G networks to connect women entrepreneurs with experienced professionals for business growth.
